Bibliography
The RaceSci bibliography compiled english-language scholarly works from
1996-2004 that historicized "race" as its relations with science,
technology and medicine, with a concentration on the fields of history,
sociology and anthropology. When this website began in 1996, this
bibliographic project was very much needed. First, it sought to
consolidate the scattered literature into a single field of
study. Second, searchable bibliographic databases were not yet available,
and "race" was not a subject heading in important bibliographic projects,
such as the Isis Cumulative Bibliography. Since then, not only has the
literature on "race" and science multiplied tremendously, but the
improvements in search capabilities for major bibliographic databases
easily allows one to search for literature that before was difficult to
find, making the RaceSci bibliographic project imfeasable. No more
additions will be made to the RaceSci bibliography as of August 2006. The
strengths of the bibliography are in American history, gender history, and
colonial history.
